What is it
Total hip and knee arthroplasty, commonly known as joint replacement surgery, involves removing damaged or worn joint surfaces and replacing them with durable artificial implants. This restores smooth, pain-free movement for patients whose joints have been affected by arthritis, injury, or degenerative wear over time.
Who is it for
Many different types of patients can benefit from joint replacement surgery. These include patients who are suffering from or have undergone:
- Age-related osteoarthritis: this is the most common indication. Most patients are >60 years old and have been suffering from knee or hip pain for some time. Such patients are considered for joint replacement surgery when other management strategies, such as painkillers, physiotherapy, weight loss, or PRGF-Endoret, are no longer effective
- Other types of osteoarthritis
- Avascular necrosis
- Complex trauma such as femoral neck (hip bone) fractures, failed internal fixation
- Previous failed surgeries of the hip or knee joint leading to infection, deformity, or other seriously deranging condition
What we do
Our world-class orthopaedic team provides a thorough evaluation including imaging and functional assessment, discusses implant options and surgical approach, and performs the procedure using modern techniques focused on faster recovery.
We support patients through pre-operative planning and surgery. Recovery continues with our expert physiotherapists at Anamiwa Health, who design a patient-centered, structured, individualized post-operative rehabilitation program designed to restore strength, mobility, and confidence.
Our goal is to help patients regain independence and return to activities pain-free and with comfort.
